Welcome to Partygoer's and Backpacker's paradise! Ko Phangan is an unusual mix of the extremely remote and laid back, to rowdy, up-all-night partying. Its idyllic setting makes it one of the most visited of Thailand's islands, and a few nights here are sure to be etched into your memory forever.

Ferries depart daily to take passengers from the mainland over to Ko Phangan, arriving in Thong Sala, the main port of the island. Up reaching the island, most travelers head to the southern tip, where Hat Rin boasts most of the islands trendy beach-hut accommodation, as well as the hottest nightclubs. For a more serene setting that is less overrun by tourists, try Hat Khuat or Thong Nai Paan Noi, on the northern side of the island.

The island has become well known in recent years for its raucous full moon parties, so if you know you will be visiting around a full moon be sure to arrive a few days early. These all night affairs attract travelers - mainly twentysomethings - from all over Thailand to its festivities. This is a night full of the best DJ's, endless drinking and dancing to tribal beats on the beach. While this is an activity where illegal drugs are taken by the truckload by uncaring Partiers, be aware that Thailand has extremely strict drug laws, and that the full moon party means that both undercover and uniformed cops are in high numbers. Also be wary of the fact tourists are often drugged and robbed at this party where it seems like anything goes, so be sure to be on extreme caution.

Ko Phagnan is all about partying, partying and more partying. During the day there are some lovely waterfalls to be visited around the island. Than Sadet Historical Park provides a great day trip, where visitors can explore the more tranquil settings of the island. There are spas on the island, where relaxing massages, yoga and fasting are all things you can partake in at an extremely reasonable price. The island boasts eleven beautiful beaches that are perfect for both lounging and swimming.

The crowning glory of the island however remains its clubs. The hotspot for those looking to have a wild night is definitely Hat Rin, where the open-air bars are right on the beach. Drinks here are dirt cheap, so most who visit drink themselves silly within the first hour.
